CALL FOR SCORES: 2007 CAPITAL M WORLD PREMIERES EXTRAVAGANZA
Postmark Deadline: October 15, 2006
Capital M announces a call for scores for its 2nd Annual World
Premieres Extravaganza, to be held in early April 2007 in New York
City. Capital M is a groundbreaking experimental rock sextet that
seeks real and total integration between contemporary classical
music and vernacular forms such as rock and jazz. Submitted works
may be for any combination of Capital M's core instrumentation:
alto saxophone (doubling flute, tenor saxophone, clarinet, bass
clarinet); 2 electric guitar (doubling classical guitar); electric
bass (doubling string bass); drum set / percussion; and voice (baritone
or countertenor, plus optional live processing). Additional instruments
will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Submitted works may
have been previously performed but should not have an extensive
performance history. Include a recording if available (MIDI renditions
acceptable), and a SASE if you would like your materials returned.

Submission Tips: there are no hard-and-fast rules
with regard to style, but in general Capital M is looking for works
that more traditional ensembles would be reluctant or unable to
play. So for example, a duo for clarinet and marimba or a straight-up
suite for jazz band would likely not be as competitive as a quartet
for electric guitar, drum set, flute, and baritone. Additionally,
the more closely the submitted work hews to Capital M's core instrumentation,
the greater the chance for repeat performances. You are welcome
to participate if you submitted works to last year's call for scores,
but please do not send the same piece(s).
